Walker, Gallen provide hope in win over Rangers as D-backs seek momentum before playoffs

D-backs beat Rangers 5-4 in first of four-game series

Walker's 3-hit, 7-strikeout performance leads D-backs to victory

The Arizona Diamondbacks snapped a four-game losing streak with a 5-4 victory over the Texas Rangers on Monday night at Chase Field. Merrill Kelly started for the D-backs and allowed four runs on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings. He struck out four and walked two.

The D-backs offense was led by Ketel Marte, who went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs. Christian Walker also homered, and Pavin Smith added a two-run single.

The Rangers took an early lead in the first inning when Adolis Garcia singled home Corey Seager. The D-backs tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Marte.

The Rangers regained the lead in the third inning on a two-run home run by Nathaniel Lowe. The D-backs tied the game again in the bottom of the inning on a solo home run by Walker.

The D-backs took the lead for good in the fourth inning on a two-run single by Smith. The Rangers scored a run in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Seager, but the D-backs bullpen held on for the victory.

The D-backs improved to 69-82 with the win, while the Rangers fell to 65-86. The two teams will face each other again on Tuesday night at Chase Field.

D-backs hope to build momentum before playoffs

The D-backs are hoping to build momentum heading into the playoffs. They are currently in third place in the NL West, 2 1/2 games behind the San Diego Padres for the second wild-card spot.

The D-backs have a tough schedule remaining, with series against the Rangers, Dodgers, and Giants. But they are confident that they can make a run at the playoffs.

"We know we have a lot of work to do," D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said. "But we're confident that we can get it done. We have a good team, and we're playing well right now."

The D-backs have been led by a strong offense this season, led by Marte, Walker, and Smith. The team also has a solid bullpen, led by closer Mark Melancon.

If the D-backs can continue to play well, they have a good chance of making the playoffs. They have a talented team, and they are playing with a lot of confidence.
